Puck hits Humane Society director at Notre Dame hockey sport, sparking shelter drive

After a flying puck and a few stitches, she had determined to show this unhealthy scenario right into a win for shelter pets.

What began as a enjoyable evening cheering on the Irish on the ice unexpectedly ended with a visit to the emergency room.

“The second period starts, and out of nowhere, I am hit by a puck right in the head,” said Humane Society of St. Joseph County Executive Director Genny Brown.

Brown received 4 stitches and is now recovering.

But instead of thinking about herself during the ordeal, she thought about the animals at the Humane Society.

“And you know, I’m sitting at the hospital up in Niles, and you know, how do you turn a bad thing into a good thing? And you know, how can we help the animals?” mentioned Brown.

Brown says there’s solely a 1% probability of getting hit with a puck at a hockey sport.

This led her to the explanation behind the brand new fundraiser concept.

“So we kind of came up with this idea where we took each letter of the word puck and we came up with some donation items that we really need to help support the animals and our cause at the humane society,” mentioned Brown

She says the support has been encouraging.

“’Cause I know there’s been a ton of people who have responded, and I and the animals definitely appreciate that,” said Brown

Donations can be made through the Humane Society’s Amazon Wish listing or dropped off on the shelter on Grape Road.
