Meet the photographer: Rick Rice

Photography has been a interest for a number of a long time, Rice mentioned.

“What was really the game-changer for me was taking a course through Community Ed,” he mentioned. “I really learned how to use my camera to its fullest extent.

Jerry Thoreson, managing director of Destination Duluth, said his work is “phenomenal.”

“A top photographer has over 1 million views of their content in a year, and he’s been a top photographer for several years,” Thoreson mentioned.

Rice’s favourite season to shoot is the autumn. Sometimes, his favourite moments are sudden. But pictures like one he took of the complete moon at Split Rock Lighthouse require planning.

“Although the pictures, the photographs, the images, are the final product, just being out there,” Rice mentioned of why he retains taking pictures. “I shot some ice shards a couple mornings ago. And I had to take a moment and just enjoy it because it was so gorgeous.”
