Girls’s Tennis Takes Down Oakland

KALAMAZOO, Mich. — The Western Michigan girls’s tennis group took down Oakland, 5-2, at West Hills Athletic Club on Saturday afternoon. 

The Broncos (5-4) began off by incomes the doubles level. Polina Khotko and Audrey Smitek made fast work of Tara Montreuil and Maryna Piechowicz, 6-0, to provide WMU the early benefit. The Grizzlies fired again with a 6-1 win at No. 1, leaving the doubles level to the No. 2 match between Western Michigan’s Julia Fazier and Sienna Osborn towards Oakland’s Nisa Bulut and Oliwia Klimas. Frazier and Osborn clinched the purpose for the Broncos with a 6-3 win. 

Frazier put the Broncos up 2-0 with fast work at No. 6 singles, defeating Montreuil 6-1, 6-0. OU lower into the lead with a win at No. 2 by Klimas over Audrey Smitek 6-4, 6-3. Lola Glantz pushed WMU’s result in 3-1 with a 6-1, 6-3 win at No. 1 over Bulut, however the Golden Grizzlies lower it again to 1 after Maryna Piechowicz beat Frieda Weijerman 6-2, 6-4 at No. 2.

The remaining two singles matches went to a few units, with freshman Ayana Yaguchi incomes the match-winning level for the Broncos after a 6-7, 6-4, 6-3 win over Emilia Jarvinen at No. 5. The victory was Yaguchi’s first of her profession in a twin match. Osborne added WMU’s fifth and ultimate level with a 4-6, 7-5, 6-3 win at No. 4 over Edie Hammond. 

The Broncos head again on the street to tackle Cleveland State on Saturday at 10 a.m. after which at Youngstown State on Sunday at 11 a.m.
