Among humpback whales, which may develop upwards of 60 feet long and weigh as much as 40 tons, cases of albinism are exceedingly uncommon. But when these otherworldly all-white mammals seem—such because the beloved Migaloo that was first noticed in 1991 off Australia’s east coast—they encourage marvel.

Marine photographer Jono Allen captured a singular shot of a child white humpback being nudged by its mom, taking the highest prize within the 2026 World Nature Photography Awards (WNPA), along with successful the Underwater class.

The seventh version of WNPA continues to spotlight the range, magnificence, and inherent vulnerability of our planet’s wildlife and ecosystems. From Mary Schrader’s tender portrait of a gorilla observing a butterfly to Miki Spitzer’s enigmatic drone photograph of a mineral pool that appears just like the close-up of a dragon’s eye, all the successful pictures emphasize curiosity and awe.
