Texas males’s swimming and diving returned to Austin with a second consecutive Southeastern Conference Championship title, 9 gold medals and one Commissioner’s Cup Trophy after the SEC Championships concluded on Saturday.
“(The team) works extremely hard,” head swimming and diving coach Bob Bowman stated to ESPN. “… they worked well as a team, and they came to compete as hard as they could regardless of condition, so I’m super proud of that.”
On day two of the championships, the Longhorns broke a four-year-old Allan Jones Intercollegiate Aquatic Center document beforehand held by Florida within the 800-meter freestyle relay. Freshman Rafael Fente-Damers, senior Baylor Nelson, junior Rex Maurer and junior Camden Taylor earned gold with a time of 6:06.24.
Day three of the championships consisted of record-breaking performances from senior Hubert Kós within the 100-yard backstroke (43.86) and junior Nate Germonprez (49.92) within the 100-yard breaststroke.
SEC Commissioner’s Cup Trophy recipient, Kòs, introduced residence three gold medals and broke three aquatic heart data. After successful the 200-yard IM, alongside his fellow Longhorns and sweeping the rostrum, Kós stated it felt like follow.
“It’s really special and (the team) is a group of really special guys,” Kós stated to ESPN. “I wouldn’t have it any other way.”
On day 4 of the SEC Championships, Kós helped lead junior Will Modglin, Germonprez and Taylor within the 400-yard medley relay, the place the group received gold with a time of two:57.64. “We got a big meet coming up in a month, let’s go,” Bowman stated to ESPN.
The NCAA Zone D Diving Championships are slated from Mar. ninth to eleventh in College Station, Texas, on the Rec Center Natatorium.
The NCAA Championships will observe from Mar. twenty fifth to twenty eighth in Atlanta.
