Swim Sooner by Swimming Straighter — The Straight Line Precept

I typically get requested to do pool deck periods with swim groups once I journey.

Most of the time it’s drills and abilities practices or “motivation” talks, angle talks and many others.

But there’s one session I like to do as a result of it’s so vital: Straight Line Swimming.

Swimming is a straight line sport.

We begin in a straight line: it’s known as Streamlining.

We swim in a straight line and keep away from the lane ropes if we are able to.

We flip straight! We come to the center of the lane to then speed up into the flip so we are able to flip and push off in a straight line.

And we end straight. We come to the center of the lane and kick powefully to the wall to the touch proper within the centre of the lane.

We begin straight – we swim straight – we flip straight – we end straight.

When you concentrate on it, we begin and end in streamline – as each nice end is Head ahead, hips excessive, full kick and full stroke place on the wall.

Coaches it is crucial you educate and regularly reinforce straight line swimming.

Why?

Because underneath the stress of competitors, swimmers will do what they’ve practised.

If we don’t educate them to begin, swim, flip and end in straight strains, then – when it actually issues – they’ll be swimming in circles!

Swimming. It’s a straight line sport.
