Brandon Doxon makes tents as his full-time job, embracing the mountain man life-style to place meals on his household’s desk. But it’s nothing new for the Cozad man, who was virtually born at a black powder rendezvous.

“My first rendezvous I was 6 months old. I was born in November, and in May, my parents took me to Red, White and Blue, and ever since then my family has camped and been in the mountain life the whole time,” said Doxon.

Brandon and his dad are still very active in going to the rendezvous and sometimes his mom joins him, along with his wife and he also takes his kids along to experience the outdoors at a young age, like he did growing up.

“I love history. I love the history of it. I want my kids to be exposed to the outdoors. It’s the life I want them to live and understand. I’m a very avid hunter and trapper, and this all goes along with it hand-in-hand.”

They take pleasure in staying within the tents that Brandon makes. In truth, that’s been his fulltime job for the previous 12 months or so. His transportable pavilions are interval appropriate, identical to somebody would’ve used within the 1800s.

“The thing about my tents compared to what Cabela’s sells is Cabela’s and outfitter places like that sell tents with frames on the inside of them. And its probably something I could do and handle, but all of mine are period, so all of mine are ropes and exterior wood poles and stuff like that. A lot of the guys that are just using them for weekend hunting uses seem to lean more toward the metal frame ones, but there are handful of guy in the hunting world that have my tents and use them for their elk camps in Colorado, Wyoming.”

And his enterprise retains rising, as he continues to stake out his personal part within the tent making world.

“Last year, I made 38 tents. And then I also did another 16 or 17 enclosed awnings, and another 20 or so diamond flys and tents like that. Plus, I lost track of how many repairs and custom orders I did on top of that.”

From diamond flys, to pyramids, to officer tents, Brandon Doxon’s world is seemingly made out of canvas.
