Ex-Long Island PTA veep accused of stealing over $10K from PTA checking account to fund life-style: DA

A former Long Island PTA bigwig allegedly stole greater than $10,000 in funds from the affiliation’s coffers to finance her personal private procuring sprees, authorities mentioned.

Hope Livingston, 50, allegedly snatched the funds from the Sag Harbor Elementary School PTA to make purchases at Costco, Amazon, Target, Lululemon, numerous native Sag Harbor enterprise and even withdrew sums of money straight from the PTA checking account, according to the Suffolk County District Attorney’s office.

She was arrested Tuesday and arraigned on third-degree grand larceny costs, authorities mentioned.

“Parent Teacher Associations are one of the cornerstones of school communities across Long Island,” Suffolk County District Attorney Raymond Tierney mentioned in an announcement.

“The allegations in this case represent an egregious betrayal of the trust the residents of Sag Harbor placed in this defendant, and my office will continue to hold accountable those individuals who unlawfully enrich themselves at the public’s expense.”

Livingston served because the Sag Harbor PTA’s co-treasurer from July 2021 to June 2022 and was bumped as much as vp in July 2022, a task she remained in till June 2024, in line with authorities.

When the PTA transitioned to new board members in September 2024, they started assessment the group’s funds. When they gained entry to the checking account, they found Livingston had “unlawfully” used greater than $10,000 affiliation funds via a debit card she had entry to for her personal private bills, prosecutors mentioned.

Riverhead Town Justice Sean Walter ordered Livingston to be launched with out bail since her costs are usually not a bail eligible offense, prosecutors mentioned.

She is slated to return to courtroom on March seventeenth.
