Silverton swimmer wins Maps women Athlete of the Week

Silverton swimmer Khylee Howell is the winner of the Maps Credit Union highschool women Athlete of the Week, as voted by Statesman Journal readers.

A senior, Howell earned three top-six finishes Feb. 21 on the OSAA 5A state meet. She positioned sixth within the 200-yard medley relay (1 minute, 58.07 seconds), fourth within the 50 freestyle (26.22) and sixth within the 400 freestyle relay (4:00.84).

Howell obtained 67.74% of the reader ballot votes. Cascade wrestler Nevaeh Hampton was second (31.71%).

Cecily Coy, West Salem swimming

Coy, a sophomore, claimed a pair of top-nine finishes Feb. 21 on the OSAA 6A state meet. She completed ninth within the 500-yard freestyle in 5 minutes, 26.69 seconds and fifth within the 400 freestyle relay in 3:39.28.

Leah Ellerbee, Stayton swimming

Ellerbee, a junior, positioned fifth within the 500 freestyle (5:27.5) Feb. 21 on the OSAA 4A/3A/2A/1A state meet.

Nevaeh Hampton, Cascade wrestling

Hampton, a sophomore, positioned fourth within the 125-pound bracket Feb. 27 of the OSAA 4A/3A/2A/1A championships.

Odelya Laroya, West Salem swimming

Laroya, a junior, claimed three top-six finishes Feb. 21 on the OSAA 6A state meet. She was fourth within the 50 freestyle (23.82), sixth within the 100 backstroke (59.88) and fifth within the 400 freestyle relay (3:39.28).

Breeza Rodriguez, Silverton swimming

Rodriguez, a senior, claimed three top-six finishes Feb. 21 on the OSAA 5A state meet. She positioned sixth within the 200 medley relay (1:58.07), third within the 100 freestyle (56.05) and fourth within the 100 backstroke (1:02.53).

Aliyah Sauceda, Dayton wrestling

Sauceda, a senior, positioned third within the 170-pound bracket Feb. 27 on the OSAA 4A/3A/2A/1A championships. She received her third-place match by fall in 2:37.
