PEARL, Miss. (WLBT) — More than 1,100 kindergarten by fifth grade college students packed Trustmark Park in Pearl on Saturday for the thirteenth annual Get Ready to Run Kids’ One-Mile Fun Run, an occasion hosted by Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Mississippi to encourage wholesome life for kids.
The occasion was not restricted to the race.
Forty-five faculties throughout Mississippi spent weeks making ready by a bodily schooling curriculum developed by Blue Cross.
Each week, college students targeted on a distinct matter, together with vitamin, hydration, pacing, and purpose setting.
P.E. Coach Anthony Slater stated he balances structured train and delight.
“We always have play time. We’re going to make sure we have their time in,” Slater stated. “We also have time to work and get a little bigger, a little bit better, a little stronger. We stretch; we exercise. At the end, we have a ton of fun.”
Slater added that vitamin is a central a part of this system and a lesson he reinforces with college students every week.
“Without proper nutrition, you don’t get the results that you typically are looking for,” Slater stated. “So I think nutrition is one of the biggest parts of fitness in general.”
Cayla Mangrum, Director of Corporate Communications at Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Mississippi, stated the occasion provides college students an opportunity to construct confidence by achievement.
“When they set that goal and they achieve it, they get that confirmation, that validation of, ‘I can achieve hard things,’” Mangrum stated.
The college students had been glad they had been in a position to end the mile.
