Family Science Fun Day at MU to convey hands-on STEM actions to neighborhood

Published 12:00 am Monday, March 16, 2026

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. — Families are invited to discover science collectively throughout Family Science Fun Day, a free, public occasion on Marshall University’s Huntington campus.

The occasion can be held within the Science Building from 1-5 p.m. on Saturday, March 28.

Designed particularly for younger kids and college students as much as center college age, the occasion welcomes members of all ages to take pleasure in hands-on, interactive STEM actions with household and pals. Children will rotate by exercise stations, full challenges and accumulate stamps to win small prizes.

Stations will embody actions reminiscent of trying to find gems in sand, crafting slime and bouncy balls, creating big bubbles, viewing small objects underneath microscopes and knocking over targets with an air vortex cannon, amongst many others.

“Having hands-on STEM activities that provide fun and memorable experiences for young children will inspire them in the STEM fields,” mentioned Sachiko McBride, West Virginia state director of Science Olympiad and Science Olympiad at Marshall University advisor. “The many stations will be run by Marshall University undergraduate and graduate students, so the children can interact with our Marshall students as well. Having an open, free public event will make all families feel it is easy to access and bring their children.”

The occasion is open to the general public, and no registration is required. This alternative is made attainable by a NASA West Virginia Space Grant Consortium grant.
