Girls’s Tennis Drops MAC Opener to Miami

KALAMAZOO, Mich. — The Western Michigan ladies’s tennis crew dropped its Mid-American Conference opener to Miami, 4-3, at West Hills Athletic Club on Sunday afternoon. 

The Broncos (9-5, 0-1 MAC) took the early benefit because of the doubles level. Marielou Baudouin and Friday Weijerman picked up the primary win, a 6-3 choice at No. 3 over Lovisa Valentinsson and Evelyn Risner. Miami squared it up after a win at No. 1, however Lola Glantz and Ayana Yaguchi sealed the purpose with a 6-4 win at No. 2 over Nina Chavez and Maria Komar at No. 2 shortly after.

Audrey Smitek pushed the result in 2-0 with a 6-2, 6-4 win at No. 3 over Valentinsson. Yaguchi then scored WMU’s third and ultimate level to make it 3-0 with a 6-2, 6-4 win at No. 5 over Risner. From there, the RedHawks chipped away on the lead. MU’s first level was a win at No. 1 singles, adopted by No. 2 to chop the result in 3-2. The match-tying level got here at No. 6, with the winner coming by Avery Voss at No. 4.

Western Michigan heads on the street for the primary time in MAC play, taking up Northern Illinois on Sunday at 1 p.m. ET.
