Calvin Ladies’s Swimming and Diving Opens Competitors at NCAA III Championships

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The Calvin ladies’s swimming and diving crew opened competitors on the NCAA III Swimming and Diving Championships on Wednesday.

The Knights had three particular person swims and one relay swim within the morning prelims.

Calvin opened the day within the 500 freestyle. Sophomore Zoe Poe (Bridgeville, Pa./South Fayette Twp.) was 30^th within the 5000 freestyle in a time of 5:02.87.

Senior Meghan Bengelink (Holland, Mich./Holland Christian HS) took 46^th (23.82) and junior Elise Bajwa (Bethesda, Md./Brookewood School) 53^rd (24.11) within the 50 freestyle.

Calvin then competed within the 400 medley relay. Seeded 23^rd, the Knights positioned 18^th in a time of three:49.65. The Knights missed a spot within the comfort finals by simply two locations. The relay consisted of junior Emma Merkel (Grandville, Mich./Grandville HS), Bajwa, senior Elyse Radawski (Jenison, Mich./Jenison HS) and Bengelink.

Calvin will now flip its consideration to Thursday with the Knights slated to compete within the 200 freestyle relay the place it’s seeded 12^th. Merkel may also compete within the 200 freestyle individually.

COACHES COMMENT: “A solid opening day,” stated Calvin head swim coach Dan Gelderloos. “We have some opportunities ahead of over the next three days with a chance to score points. We are hoping to pick up momentum as we move along in the meet.”

NEXT UP: Day two of the NCAA III Swimming and Diving Championships are set for 10 a.m. on Thursday with championship occasion finals set for six p.m.
