CHRISTMAS VALLEY, Ore. — More than two dozen animals, together with 17 canine, are getting care at shelters after they have been discovered dwelling in unsanitary situations on a Christmas Valley property earlier this week.
The Oregon Humane Society and Lake County Sheriff’s Office have been investigating a case of suspected animal neglect on Wednesday, March 18.
The group mentioned they rescued 17 canine, 4 cats, 5 birds, and two gerbils that have been all “living in unsanitary conditions and lacking access to food and water.”
They additionally discovered a number of useless animals on the property.
The canine and cats have been taken again to the OHS campus in Portland, and the birds and gerbils have been taken to the Humane Society of North Lake County.
“Cases like this are only successful through strong teamwork, coordination, and cooperation among partner agencies,” says Sheriff Daniel Tague, Lake County Sheriff’s Office. “I want to sincerely thank Oregon Humane for their continued assistance and expertise, as well as the veterinarian out of La Pine who supported this effort. Their collaboration was critical in ensuring these animals were safely removed and received the care they needed.”
This marks the second time Oregon Humane Society workers memvers have helped the Lake County Sheriff’s Office in a case of suspected animal neglect.
Last 12 months, OHS Law Enforcement helped different businesses over 150 instances, and investigated almost 800 instances.
“Our partnerships with other law enforcement agencies are critical to helping animals who may be suffering from abuse or neglect,” says Chris Allori, Oregon Humane Chief of Humane Law Enforcement. “We are grateful to the team from Lake County Sheriff’s Office for their hard work on these cases, and for reaching out to us to help animals who are suffering.”
