WATCH | Prop Maker Elisia Evans creates a prop for Murdoch Mysteries:
If you might have ever watched Murdoch Mysteries and thought, “I wish I could invent fun and exciting turn-of-the-century gadgets like William Murdoch, you would know that the props are as much a character in the series as the detective himself.
In this behind-the-curtain feature, up-and-coming props creator Elisia Evans had a rare chance to meet Murdoch’s Prop Master Craig Grant, who has been with the series since Season 1, and she even got an assignment: To build a Murdoch-inspired camera prop.
Elisia takes us through her creative process and we get to watch her take everyday items, with some guidance and feedback from Craig Grant himself, to create her Murdoch Mysteries, steampunk-inspired “Thermometrical Spectrum Capture Device. ” She explains her streamlined approach to her inventions, “I like seeing issues out of the context of their typical functions. I begin to consider what they could possibly be and fewer of what they’re.”
