A long-running furniture store at one of Fresno’s busiest intersections may be in its “final days.”

That’s if one believes the signs posted in the windows and on trees outside of Lifestyle Furniture Home Store.

The signs, which were first reported over the weekend, appear to announce the closure of the store, which has been an anchor at Shaw and Blackstone avenues since the early 2000s.

They read: “We quit!” in large block letters, followed by “Final Markdowns” and “Final Days.” The signs also thank the Central Valley for the store’s 40-plus years and has, what looks like, an official logo.

But the signs appear to be the only indication of the closure .

As of Wednesday, there was no mention of a closing date, or any associated markdowns or sales on any of the store’s social media pages or website. Messages to the store were not returned Wednesday and multiple calls to the listed phone number were not answered during business hours.

An anchor on Blackstone and Shaw Avenues

Lifestyle Furniture opened in the 1990s, and within the decade was operating at least two locations (on Blackstone Avenue at Ashlan and on Cedar Avenue at Clinton).

By the time it moved into its current location in 2003, the company had four stores in Fresno.

It replaced Barnes & Noble Booksellers in the two-story, 34,576-square-foot structure at the southeast corner of Blackstone and Shaw and quickly found success there due to passing traffic (reportedly 90,000 cars a day) and ample parking. The company purchased the building (and that of the former Stroud’s store) the following year, according to a story in The Fresno Bee.

“Sales were so good there that they decided to buy it,” the selling agent told The Bee.

For several years in the 2010s, the company topped the Best of Central California readers poll for best furniture and mattress store.

In recent years, the store has used its highly-visible parking lot as a semi-permanent gathering spot for food trucks like Havana Cafe.
