Pieter Hugo on the Roger Ballen Centre for Photography and the Inside Out Centre for the Arts

Fashion_The Image is a significant photographic exhibition offered by the Inside Out Foundation, in collaboration with Wanted Magazine and the African Fashion Research Institute. The exhibition explores how vogue imagery has formed visible tradition in South Africa and throughout the African continent. Conceived as a wide-ranging survey of the medium over the previous 5 many years, the exhibition brings collectively images, movie, set up and archival materials to place vogue imagery as a robust cultural and industrial pressure.

Curated by Sharon Armstrong in partnership with Aspasia Karras, Editor of Wanted Magazine, and developed in collaboration with Dr Erica de Greef and Ayabukwa Magocoba of the African Fashion Research Institute, the exhibition brings collectively main photographers and filmmakers together with Pieter Hugo, Kristin-Lee Moolman, Nadine Ijewere and Nontsikelelo Veleko, alongside influential designers akin to Thebe Magugu, Rich Mnisi and Viviers. A devoted presentation of labor by Koto Bolofo additional anchors the exhibition inside a worldwide photographic lineage, highlighting African authorship and long-term affect on the style picture.
