Prince Albert II inaugurates youth pictures exhibition on endangered heritage

Prince Albert II attended the opening of a free outside pictures exhibition on Wednesday eighth April on the Jardins Saint-Martin on the Rocher, marking the second version of a contest inviting younger individuals aged 11 to 25 to discover the theme of heritage underneath risk.

The exhibition, organised by the Direction des Affaires Culturelles, shows 15 chosen images on the railings of the Saint-Martin gardens and can stay on view till 4th October 2026 — the date of the European Heritage Days within the Principality.

The theme

This 12 months’s competitors requested members to think about the threats going through each tangible and intangible cultural heritage: local weather change, pure disasters, urbanisation, mass tourism and shifting social patterns. Tangible heritage encompasses structure, artworks, archaeological websites and historic landscapes; intangible heritage contains language, traditions, gastronomy, performing arts and artisanal crafts. The theme gave younger entrants the chance to mirror on what heritage means to them and the way it is perhaps preserved.

The competitors ran from fifteenth January to fifteenth March and drew entries from throughout the Principality’s youth group.

The jury and the prize-winners

The choice jury included Stéphane Bern, one in every of France’s most outstanding voices on heritage preservation, and internationally famend photographer and documentary maker Nick Danziger, alongside a number of figures from Monaco’s cultural world. From all submissions, 15 images have been chosen for the exhibition.

Three particular Jury Favourite prizes, one in every age class, have been offered by Prince Albert II on the inauguration. The winners have been Stacy Formosa (11–14 years) for Ma chère Principauté, Anne-Sophie Théroué (15–18 years) for Mémoire fragile derrière une grille, and Elisa Fabris Lagrassa (19–25 years) for A lenga munegascu ün periculu — a title within the Monegasque language that interprets as “the Monegasque language, a danger.”

The exhibition is free and open to the general public on the railings of the Jardins Saint-Martin till 4th October 2026.
