Excessive fuel costs affect summer time journey plans for some drivers

RICHMOND, Va. (WWBT) – With temperatures warming up this week, spring and summer time journey have gotten high of thoughts for some drivers.

However, after weeks of fuel costs climbing previous $4, some drivers say fuel is taking part in a consider how far they’re prepared to go and the way a lot they’re prepared to spend on trip, regardless of the costs happening barely this week.

Mic Hon, a driver, stated the excessive costs are affecting his funds the journeys he has deliberate this summer time.

“If gas was cheaper, you know, that’s more money you could put toward a hotel room or anything else, but you know, you’re looking at $100, $200 just to do a round trip if it’s an hour or so away,” Hon stated.

However, not all drivers share the identical sentiment.

“Just like the soldiers, they make a sacrifice, we, as the people that the soldiers protect, we have to make a sacrifice as well,” stated Jay Lee, a driver. “This is the time to reevaluate what you’re doing with your fuel and things of that nature. Stop speeding, slow down a little bit. All that affects your fuel mileage.”

It’s not simply drivers getting impacted by excessive fuel costs. Flyers are affected as properly, as some airways have tacked on additional charges to maintain up with the price of jet gas.

“You are looking at paying more for air travel this year. So, do some of that shopping around, but if you can find prices that you are happy with, go ahead and lock in,” stated Morgan Dean, AAA mid-Atlantic spokesman.

Dean stated that regardless of the upper costs, evidently most are prepared to chew the bullet for a trip and simply sacrifice for cheaper inns and eating places, or choose out of driving or flying altogether and hop aboard a ship.

AAA is anticipating a report yr for cruises.

“Cruise lines are offering some deals out there right now for folks who are signing up. They want to make sure that those ships are full, that’s how they maximize their miles per gallon,” Dean stated.
