Scientists have confirmed {that a} fireball noticed within the skies above the North East was a meteor.

The spectacular sight was captured by numerous cameras throughout the area at round 12.23am within the early hours of Monday morning (13 April).

The International Meteor Organization obtained stories of sightings of the fireball from members of the general public in lots of elements of the North East and North Yorkshire together with Sunderland, Hartlepool, Stockton, Darlington and Scarborough.
