University of Florida undergraduate and graduate college students got here collectively as soon as once more to compete within the annual American Statistical Association DataFest held April 10-12.

The occasion drew college students from throughout 16 completely different majors at UF in addition to volunteers and mentors from Ph.D. packages in biostatistics, statistics and pharmacy.

The nationwide case competitors is hosted at UF by the Department of Biostatistics within the College of Public Health and Health Professions and the Department of Statistics within the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. DataFest challenges college students to work in groups all through the weekend to seek out and share that means in a big, wealthy and sophisticated dataset.

“This year’s data was very cool and interesting, and the guiding challenge question left teams with tons of different avenues to explore,” mentioned occasion organizer Steven Foti, Ph.D., a medical affiliate professor within the Department of Biostatistics. “We had a lot of variety in insights from the presentations. It was a lot of fun and certainly a challenge for the judges to choose winners.”
