Colonel Crawford’s Brynn Bruner commits to swim at St. Thomas University

NORTH ROBINSON – When deciding on the place to swim in school, Colonel Crawford’s Brynn Bruner had a troublesome determination to make.

She had narrowed her record to 6 faculties — University of Texas Permian Basin, Barry University (Miami), Ave Maria University (Ave Maria, Florida), Northern Kentucky, Florida Southern, and St. Thomas University (Miami Gardens) — earlier than in the end pinpointing UTPB and St. Thomas because the finalists.

“I was really stuck between,” Bruner mentioned. “I visited (UTPB) during cross country season, and my cross country friends will say I was like, ‘I’m definitely going there.’ But about halfway through my season when I was getting back in my zone — I came off a rough season my junior year — I found St. Thomas University and reached out to the coach then fell in love.

“Their facilities are insane, I’ll have seven coaches … it’s totally D-I feels, and that is what bought it for me. Then I went there and fell in love with the campus. I hung out with the women and could not think about going wherever else. being beside a seashore and swimming outdoors was a pleasant perk.”

The seashore would possibly’ve been the last word attraction over Odessa, Texas.

“(It) was a giant promoting level, I really feel like a part of myself is all the time within the ocean,” she said. “It’s solely an eight minute drive, and I do know I will not be there on a regular basis, however simply to have that shut is fortunate.”

A nine-time All-Ohioan in the pool and holder of four school records at Colonel Crawford — 200 medley relay, 200 IM, 100 backstroke, 400 freestyle relay — Bruner has been a standout multi-sport athlete. She was a four-year state qualifier in cross country at Colonel Crawford and Lexington twice as part of third place finishing teams, freshman year with the Eagles and senior year with the Minutemen. Bruner was also a state qualifier in track as a sophomore and has earned all-league honors seven times in three seasons.

Now, she is eager to take the plunge into uncharted waters.

“My brother (Kaden) performs at Otterbein, my dad (Jake) performed at Otterbein, and my mother (Sarah) swam (at Ohio State), so they’d nothing however positivity and pleasure. They mentioned these are the perfect 4 years of your life. Obviously there’s challenges, and it should be laborious, however they loved it and cherished it a lot.”
