North Raleigh Field Hockey | Rising the sport for younger women one Wednesday night time at a time

RALEIGH, N.C. (WTVD) — On Wednesday nights at Ravenscroft School, you will discover practically 60 women in matching blue shirts taking part in subject hockey.

“It’s really fun and like there’s so many skills to learn,” stated 10-year outdated Millie Greff.

They’re the unique members of North Raleigh Field Hockey, a brand new leisure youth league that teaches the game of subject hockey to women in grades 3-8.

Amory Martin, an eighth-grader at Ravenscroft, has solely been taking part in the game for a 12 months.

“I was scared to do it at first,” Martin stated. “Whatever level you start at you’ll get better and better and meet people along the way.”

Finding a brand new ardour and making new pals is precisely what North Raleigh Field Hockey Director Meg Cline hoped for when she began the league.

“I knew if I got them out here, they’d fall in love with the sport,” Cline stated.

Cline began taking part in subject hockey at 7. She performed for 4 years at Davidson College. She’s coached at the highschool and membership degree throughout North Carolina, Virginia and even in components of Chicago. She needs to see the game develop on the youth degree.

“It’s fun, it’s easy to pick up and you meet a lot of good friends,” she stated.

The inaugural season exceeded all of Cline’s expectations.

“They’ve got some real skills now,” Cline stated.
