The molecular drivers and health trade-offs controlling the transition of environmental micro organism into human pathogens stay enigmatic. Here, we describe a small RNA (sRNA) with a novel modular construction that shapes the evolution of toxigenic Vibrio cholerae, the agent of cholera.
