When writing my e-book The Politics of Breastfeeding in 1987, I needed to make use of a photograph taken by Raghu Rai (Obituary, 4 May) of nurses bottle-feeding infants in a Singapore maternity ward. I couldn’t afford the £200 charge. I one way or the other acquired his cellphone quantity in India and referred to as from the UK. He answered the cellphone himself. I briefly defined my work and requested if he had been keen to cut back his charge. He instantly mentioned he would waive the whole charge, including warmly, “and good luck with your noble cause”.

Thanks for taking pictures down some pathetic male beliefs round vasectomy (Opinion, 11 May). After mine, I had a supposedly clever pal significantly inform me he wouldn’t need something that “messed with his boys”. But apart from a painful week doing a John Wayne stroll, what a pleasure to be firing blanks.

Regarding paperwork methods (Letters, 13 May), I survived most of my 39 years with TfL’s predecessor, London Transport, by utilizing a basket designated “Leave it alone and it will go away”. It normally did.
