BAY ST. LOUIS, Miss. (WVUE) – The Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality introduced individuals mustn’t swim within the water alongside the coast of Bay St. Louis, Gulfport and Biloxi in spite of everything three seashores examined for larger than regular Enterococci.

The micro organism could cause nausea, vomiting, abdomen cramps and diarrhea, stated Dr. Eric Griggs, a well being educator.

“It can make you really, really sick especially if you are immunocompromised, have open wounds, seniors, kids and pregnant women,” Griggs stated.

The micro organism often come from people or animals on land.

“It’s fecal contamination from sewerage, runoff, animals and just storm water,” Griggs stated.

Residents stated the outbreaks are widespread after heavy rains like this previous weekend.

“I’ve been around for about 50 years and it comes and it goes. It’s part of nature,” stated Elliot Romaine, a Bay St. Louis resident.

The closure comes as a handful of holiday makers arrange alongside the Mississippi Gulf Coast earlier than the summer time rush ramps up later within the month.

Early vacationers are having fun with the seashores otherwise this weekend.

“We just got a text from somebody at home saying that the fecal matter is pretty high,” stated Emma Duplantier, from Metairie.

Beach-goers try to get pleasure from their trip close to the water, not within the water.

“We’re just eating chips, drinking. Getting some sun rays. Getting a tan going,” stated Jennifer Ziegler, from Kenner.

With the various eating places, bars and sights alongside the coast, the micro organism outbreak will not be dampening the enjoyable.

“Last year we were here for the same weekend and it was a lot of fun. There’s a lot of activity going on,” Duplantier stated.

The Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality is frequently testing the water and can submit an announcement on-line as soon as it deems the seashores secure to reopen.
