Advisory issued towards swimming at 20 Nassau seashores

The Nassau County Health Department issued an advisory Sunday morning towards swimming at 20 seashores, 16 on the North Shore and 4 on the South Shore.

The advisory was “a precautionary measure for beaches known to be impacted by stormwater runoff caused by heavy rainfall,” the division stated in its assertion.

As of Sunday, Long Island has seen intermittent rain for the previous 36 hours.

When rain falls on impermeable surfaces it carries animal feces — particularly from home canines when people don’t decide up after them — into close by streams and bays. • Hewlett Point Beach — East Rockaway

• Philip Healey Beach — Massapequa

The well being division stated the advisory would finish Monday morning except heavy rain continued or if testing confirmed bacterial ranges that exceed the requirements for secure swimming.

Suffolk County had made no comparable declaration Sunday morning.
