Photography Tells Sculpture | Bode-Museum – Berlin.de

Today, we usually tend to encounter sculptures in images than in individual. These pictures form how we see, bear in mind, and perceive three-dimensional artwork. Photography Tells Sculpture explores this shift in perspective by putting sculptures and their photographic representations in direct dialog, inviting guests to expertise the act of seeing in an entire new manner.

The exhibition options over sixty images from the late nineteenth century to the current, alongside seven fastidiously chosen sculptures courting from the eleventh to the seventeenth century. Organized into 9 thematic chapters, it reveals how photographic methods—corresponding to lighting, framing, and perspective—stage and interpret sculptural types.

By linking the Bode Museum’s sculpture assortment with its beforehand little-known photographic archive, the exhibition affords recent insights into each media. A richly illustrated catalogue accompanies the present, with contributions from Dr. Franziska Lampe (Photothek, Zentralinstitut für Kunstgeschichte, Munich), Prof. Dr. Kathrin Müller (Institute for Art and Visual History, Humboldt University, Berlin), and different consultants, offering in-depth views from throughout the sphere of artwork historical past.
