“I took a class in junior year of high school to learn how to develop film. I found it very interesting,” mentioned Petz, a Carbondale Area High School graduate.

“I applied to Arts Alive at Keystone College and the summer going into my senior year got to learn more about photography, like how to use the dark room, developing processes, etc., and I really enjoyed it,” Petz mentioned.

Petz sparked her love for images whereas going to the Art Institute of California — San Diego.

“I loved traveling around the city, and I had a camera so I would take pictures of all the beautiful landscapes. San Diego had a lot of unique features, such as tropical flowers, palm trees, the beach, unique rock formations. The beautiful landscape gave me lots to photograph,” Petz defined.

After residing in San Diego, she moved to Chicago and bought to do some fan images at Wrigley Field, house of the Chicago Cubs.

“After living in Chicago, I moved back to Pennsylvania. My great-grandparents, grandparents and parents all lived in Carbondale,” Petz mentioned.

While working as a server, she nonetheless loved the artwork of images.

“My friends knew how much I loved it, and they would always ask me to take their pictures,” Petz mentioned.

“I became more and more ecstatic about photographing weddings and being back in the area. I knew a lot of my clients who were friends, or after doing their sessions, they became friends,” Petz defined.

When requested what her favourite a part of being a photographer is, she mentioned, “I love capturing the moments people don’t think about, the tiny in-between moments like parents crying at a wedding, capturing the tears, dads looking at their daughters as brides, a whisper shared between the bride and groom.”

Petz expanded her repertoire to incorporate being pregnant photograph shoots, new child and household pictures and extra.

“It’s a rewarding experience when I get to photograph a family from wedding, to pregnancy, to newborn, to family sessions, and high school senior portraits,” Petz mentioned. “I really enjoy the senior photo sessions. I cater every session to be different and show the seniors’ own unique personality and epic shots of them.”

She can journey to take senior photograph periods, too.

“I am open to going anywhere. I have traveled to Philadelphia to take senior portraits. My goal is to capture their unique essence and go where they feel most comfortable,” Petz mentioned. “It’s a great moment, turning shy people and making them more comfortable so they can be themselves in front of the camera. I put them at ease, and that is one of the best parts of my profession.”

Her most random photograph shoot was “photographing people who have had an artist body paint them … I helped in adding colors, and it is very uncommon to get to work on that — that was an artistry experience. I also got to help with special effects makeup, making a child look like a doll. It took three hours of makeup,” Petz mentioned.

Petz can be the director of Women to Women: THRIVE — a neighborhood group in Carbondale that focuses on educating, serving to, reaching, investing, valuing and inspiring folks inside the neighborhood.

When Petz isn’t photographing, she enjoys the outside, enjoying piano and guitar, and being together with her boyfriend and canine.

“I have had incredible experiences, from meeting different people in my profession to the places I have gotten to travel to. It really has been an amazing experience,” Petz mentioned.

“I always enjoyed traveling — I traveled to 16 countries and backpacked through Europe twice. I love traveling because of the different places to see, the unique people I get to meet. It is also superb for my profession. I photographed in Ireland and Italy, making those experiences some of my absolute favorite,” Petz mentioned.

Petz has additionally labored on a film set.

“It was cool to work on a movie set. I photographed on set for a movie called ‘Back in the Day’ starring Alec Baldwin and Shannon Doherty,” Petz mentioned in regards to the 2016 boxing movie.

“My photography has also been in the New York Post. I photographed an event for a comedian where I met William DeMeo,” the star, author and producer of “Back in the Day,” she mentioned. “I also was featured in Entertainment Weekly for my photographs of Alec Baldwin.”
