Marshall names Campbell new swimming and diving coach

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) – Marshall University has introduced the hiring of the varsity’s new swimming and diving coach.

Phoebe Campbell joins Marshall after serving as an assistant coach on the University of Akron, the place she helped the Zips to a fifth consecutive Mid-American Conference championship.

Campbell has prior expertise with the swimming and diving applications on the University of New Mexico, Texas A&M and Vasser College.

“I want to thank athletic director Gerald Harrison and president Brad Smith for believing in my ability to lead the women’s swimming and diving team,” Campbell stated in a launch Thursday.

“I am committed to adding to the rich history of Marshall University and the excellence of the student-athletes. I am humbled and excited by this amazing opportunity to work with people so committed to the success and well-being of their student-athletes. The tight-knit community that Marshall is known for makes this an easy place to call home.”

Campbell takes over for Ian Walsh, who resigned from Marshall to grow to be the pinnacle swimming coach on the University of Pittsburgh.

Marshall Athletics introduced plans to chop the swim and dive program in February, then reversed course in March to reinstate this system.

Campbell shall be formally launched at a press convention on June 30.
