Historic Sooke farm opens its fields for household enjoyable, outside connection

Hay rides, backyard snacking and an orchard maze are a part of the journey on Saturdays now by means of September at Woodside Farm in Sooke.

Guests can spend time wandering vibrant flower gardens, hopping aboard hay rides, and tasting vegetables and fruit from the supply. Stop in to go to the cattle, problem your self within the apple orchard maze, and climb aboard the enormous picket pirate ship for a little bit of journey.

“When people come to the farm for these events, they get a chance to have a true Garden of Eden experience. Eating fresh fruit, berries and vegetables right off the plants and out of the ground is not something most people have a chance to do very often. I love to see both children and adults enjoying those tastes and smells,” says proprietor Joshua Perina.

“The animal experience is also a huge part of this, especially for the kids, and it’s also so much fun to see their eyes light up when we hand them their gold coins to head into the apple maze and find their way to the seven vending machines we have hidden inside. We try to create a classy experience that is enjoyable for both adults on their own and also families with children.”

The authentic homestead of the Muir household, the farm continues to function at present, producing hay, fruits, greens, berries, eggs and extra. Woodside began farming 1851, making it Western Canada’s oldest repeatedly operated farm.

Woodside Farm Days, run Saturdays by means of Sept. 26 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. with the final entry at 3 p.m. Get tickets – $15 for adults and $10 for youngsters (children underneath 2 are free) – on-line at www.woodside.farm/visits or on the door.

“In the end, our hope is that everyone takes a couple of hours away from their screens, with their families and friends or by themselves, to enjoy a moment to reconnect to the earth, visit some animals, and have a unique and special Woodside Farm Days in a beautiful environment,” Perina stated.
