Division III Albertus Magnus to ‘Pause Indefinitely’ Swim Program

Albertus Magnus, a Division III program in Connecticut, introduced this week it can indefinitely pause its swimming and diving program, citing low participation numbers.

Albertus Magnus started a ladies’s swimming staff in 2019 and expanded to a males’s program in 2023. But Its most up-to-date roster exhibits three female swimmers and one male swimmer, occasioning the pause in this system.

“The addition of swimming and diving, beginning with women’s competition in 2019 and expanding to include men’s competition in 2023, reflected Albertus Magnus College’s commitment to creating meaningful opportunities for student-athletes and strengthening participation across our athletics programs,” Director of Athletics Michael Kobylanski stated in a press release. “Over the final a number of years, our swimming and diving student-athletes have represented Albertus with integrity, demonstrated robust educational achievement, and contributed positively to our campus neighborhood.

“After careful review and thoughtful consideration, the College determined that sustained low roster numbers since each program’s inception have made it increasingly difficult to provide the competitive environment and overall student-athlete experience that aligns with our expectations and values. While this was not an easy decision, we believe it is the most responsible path at this time. We remain grateful to the student-athletes, coaches, and supporters who helped establish these programs, and should future interest and enrollment demand support renewed viability, the College would welcome the opportunity to revisit swimming and diving in the years ahead.”

The school in New Haven stated it can stay dedicated to scholar athletes affected by the cuts.
