Weekender: Fourth of July enjoyable

FOURTH OF JULY FUN

America celebrates its semiquincentennial this Saturday. While the vacation could include troublesome emotions about our nation’s present state of affairs, I believe most can agree that gathering with family and friends to have a good time your neighborhood – whether or not by working a 5K, taking part in a pie-eating contest or having fun with a hometown parade – is a constructive drive to usher within the subsequent 250 years. 

In Santa Cruz, runners of all talent ranges will collect at Harvey West Park at 8 a.m. for the Santa Cruz Sunrise Rotary Firecracker 10K/5K/1K, beginning with a Kids’ Dash for the youngest runners. This 12 months’s run honors longtime emcee Rod Caborn, who handed away earlier this 12 months. 

It’s a day for parades throughout the county, with festivities kicking off in Boulder Creek, in Santa Cruz’s Seabright neighborhood and in Aptos for the World’s Shortest Parade at 10 a.m. The City of Scotts Valley is internet hosting a Fourth of July Parade & Block Party from 9 a.m. to three p.m. on the Boys & Girls Club car parking zone, with the parade at 11 a.m. Watsonville’s Spirit of Watsonville Fourth of July Parade begins at 12:30 p.m. downtown, adopted by the annual Fire within the Sky flyovers and fireworks beginning at 4:30 p.m. at Watsonville Municipal Airport. 

On the north coast, Wilder Ranch State Park is celebrating the semiquincentennial with American Roots, an all-day occasion with reside music, open homes on the historic buildings, meals on the market, historic demonstrations, old school video games and extra.
