Shayna Jack declares swimming retirement on eve of Commonwealth Games

Australian swimmer Shayna Jack says she is going to retire on the finish of the Commonwealth Games.

Jack was a part of gold medal relay-winning groups on the Olympic Games, world championships and Commonwealth Games.

In a video posted to social media with coach Dean Boxall, Jack stated she was leaving the game along with her head held excessive after a profession crammed with ups and downs.

“I’m extremely proud of everything I’ve achieved in my swimming career,” she stated.

“I cannot wait to finish at the Commonwealth Games, Glasgow.

“I’ve all the time cherished the Commonwealth Games, so it’s a excellent strategy to give again to my Australian neighborhood, do myself proud and stroll away with a smile on my face.”

Jack won her first Commonwealth Games gold medal as part of Australia’s 4x100m freestyle relay team in Birmingham, 2018.

She served a 24-month competition ban after an illegal substance, Ligandrol, was found in her system. Jack always denied intentionally taking a banned substance.

Jack was selected for her first Olympic Games in Paris, 2024, where she won gold medals in the women’s 4x100m freestyle relay and the women’s 4x200m freestyle relay.

“I’m actually pleased with what swimming made me,” Jack said in her retirement video.

“I’m not simply pleased with medals or the world information. That’s by no means what I swam for.

“I swam because I wanted to make a difference. I wanted to be someone people looked up to.”

The 2026 Commonwealth Games are being held within the Scottish metropolis of Glasgow, from July 23 to August 2.
