Swimming Advisories Issued for Four Ocean View Beaches in Norfolk

NORFOLK, Va. – The Norfolk Department of Public Health has issued swimming advisories for Four Ocean View Beaches in Norfolk:  East Community Beach, Ocean View Park, 10th View and 13th View.  Water testing performed yesterday revealed enterococci micro organism ranges at these websites exceeding State Water Quality Standards. Signs have been posted to alert the general public of this advisory. Health officers will proceed testing seaside water and can take away posted indicators and notify the general public when the micro organism ranges lower to satisfy state requirements.

The Environmental Health Division of the Norfolk Department of Public Health samples Ocean View seaside water on a weekly foundation, throughout the swimming season, from late-May by way of mid-September. Enterococci micro organism are a gaggle of indicator organisms used to find out the extent of fecal contamination in leisure waters.

While enterococci micro organism don’t typically trigger sickness, scientific research point out that their presence is carefully correlated to the presence of different disease-causing organisms. People swimming or taking part in in waters with micro organism ranges greater than the state requirements have an elevated threat of creating gastrointestinal sickness.
