The Forum – Water: Part 2

The Colorado Division of Water Resources (DWR)

Last week, Forum attendees heard from Colorado River District Board President (and Colorado Senator) Marc Catlin. On Wednesday, July 15, 8-9 AM, The Forum hosts the second a part of our water collection, that includes the Division of Water Resources (Division 4) and Assistant Division Engineer Evan Jones.

You is perhaps pondering: Who are they? What function do they play within the huge water image? And why are they situated in Montrose?

Or maybe you’ve been questioning: Lake Mead and Lake Powell have points. What is our half in that image? Will they drain the reservoirs in our space to fill these two?

We are surrounded by reservoirs and dams and depend on water coming by way of the Gunnison Tunnel, however who’s monitoring all that? What are the challenges? And what does our future seem like?

 

The State Engineer’s Office

The State Engineer’s Office (now DWR) was created in 1881. Its mission is to:

• Competently and dependably administer and distribute the waters of Colorado in accordance with the legal guidelines of the state
• Ensure that dams and water wells are correctly constructed and maintained to make sure public security
• Develop, keep, and supply entry to correct and well timed info concerning water assets

Each week, The Forum hosts a speaker who shares a subject of curiosity to the group. The discussion board is free and open to all who’re interested by Montrose. The Forum meets on Wednesdays (besides throughout main vacation weeks) at Colorado Mesa University – Montrose, in Cascade Hall, south of the Montrose Library, on the nook of S third Street and S Cascade Ave.
