Bermudian photographer will get funding for cultural mission – The Royal Gazette

A Bermudian photographer and visible storyteller has been provided a grant for a creative mission.

Nicola Muirhead’s Descendants of Summer was authorised for funding by the Caribbean Culture Fund as considered one of 21 new works supported by the fund.

The initiatives, chosen from eight nations throughout the Caribbean group, had been a part of a grant and residency scheme supported by the CCF.

Ms Muirhead advised The Royal Gazette: “It is an honour to have Descendants of Summer selected for support by the Caribbean Culture Fund.

“I’m grateful that the voices of the project’s collaborators have been recognised as vital memory keepers of Bermuda’s history in the Atlantic world and our enduring ties to the Caribbean.

“Bermuda’s connection to the region dates back to the island’s earliest history, and this support will help preserve and share stories that reflect our unique culture while contributing to a broader understanding of the Atlantic diaspora.

“I’m also looking forward to connecting with the artists and creatives in this year’s Caribbean Culture Fund cohort.”

Support for Ms Muirhead, a former photographer with The Royal Gazette, was a part of the CCF’s fourth name, which took the theme “Art for Change and Caribbean Collaboration”.

The initiatives contain movie, theatre, images, multimedia, structure and even digital heritage, libraries and archives.

Works had been chosen by an impartial jury based mostly on the their closeness to the fund’s theme, in addition to the ability of the artists and the standard and feasibility of their initiatives.

Kellie Magnus, the fund’s government director, stated: “Collectively, the grantees are showing the power of art in its many dimensions.”
