Matthews Named Head Coach for Males’s and Girls’s Swimming & Diving

EASTON, Mass. (Aug. 3, 2026) — Diana Matthews has been employed as the brand new head coach for Stonehill males’s and girls’s swimming & diving, Dean O’Keefe, Associate Vice President/Director of Athletics, introduced Monday.

Matthews has spent the earlier 5 seasons as the top coach of males’s and girls’s swimming & diving and the aquatics director at Regis College. 

“We are excited to announce Diana as our new head coach for men’s and women’s swimming & diving,” O’Keefe mentioned. “During our search process, her experience and commitment to growing our swimming & diving teams was evident, and we are thrilled to welcome her as the next leader of our program.”

“I’m truly honored to be named the head men’s and women’s swimming & diving coach at Stonehill College,” Matthews mentioned. “I’m excited to build on the program’s tradition, develop outstanding student-athletes and create a culture where excellence in the pool, the classroom, and the community is the standard. A 1995 graduate of Regis, Matthews is a three-time Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Coach of the Year. Last season, Matthews helped the Pride break two 31-year program information within the 50 and 100 freestyle at GNAC Championships.  In the 2024-25 marketing campaign, Matthews guided the Regis males’s swimming & diving group to a runner-up end on the GNAC Championships.

Prior to Regis, Matthews served as Head Girls’ Swim Coach at Winchester High School from 2009 to 2021 and Head Boys’ Swim Coach from 2010 to 2021. During her tenure, she coached divers to All-American honors in every of her last two seasons and guided a number of swimmers who went on to compete on the collegiate stage, together with at Division I Holy Cross and Division II applications St. Michael’s and Assumption.

From 2017 to 2021, she led the Winchester Swim & Tennis Club as Head Swim Coach, overseeing a group of 100 swimmers ranging in age from 5 to 16. Her obligations included planning exercises and meet lineups, supervising instructors, and sustaining communication with membership members.

As a student-athlete at Regis, Matthews swam beneath Regis Athletics Hall of Fame coach Ray Harrington, specializing in dash freestyle and backstroke. She was a part of a dominant group that misplaced only one twin meet in each her junior and senior seasons and positioned tenth on the New England Championships for 3 consecutive years (1993–95). A two-sport athlete, she additionally performed soccer.
