“Super Troopers 3” is in theaters in the present day, 25 years after the unique comedy turned a breakout hit in 2001, and star Marisa Coughlan is prepared for the shenanigans (if you understand, you understand).

They are fairly main shenanigans, there is no doubt about it,” Coughlan advised PauseRewind’s Elizabeth Stanton.

The third movie within the franchise sees Farva (Kevin Heffernan) getting ready to marry the sister of Thorny (Jay Chandrasekhar, additionally the director), whereas all the drive together with Foster (Paul Soter) Mac (Steve Lemme) and Rabbit (Erik Stolhanske) additionally attempt to break up a drug ring.

“In my opinion, I think it’ll be the best one yet, which I know is like a big swing to say because the first one is so beloved,” Coughland mentioned. “But for me, I feel like maybe it’s because I’m a woman, but this one has more women in it, and it has more of like a four quadrant reach, you know. It has more storylines that will be interesting to an audience that’s not necessarily like the stereotypical ‘Super Troopers’ fan.”

Coughlan highlighted that the movie has romance however remains to be “super funny” and “super absurd.” There’s additionally an Indian wedding ceremony, “so there’s like dance sequence. I mean, it’s got like kind of everything. I couldn’t have had more fun making it.”

As for police dispatcher turned chief Ursula, Coughlan usually has to play the straight girl to the antics of the blokes, one of many hardest jobs in comedy.

“It’s not easy when you’re up against someone like Farva to play it straight,” she mentioned. “My whole job is to just be kind of like the one who has like an ounce of common sense and like is actually the smart one in the room, And they’re all insane, and that continues in this one.”

“Super Troopers” introduces extra feminine characters than ever, and Coughlan mentioned “it was really fun to have a few other women in the mix and they also kind of get to like eye roll and have a little bit of a common sense thread throughout the film when everyone else is insane. So that was nice to have some cohorts.”

When it involves filming a comedy, laughing throughout a scene is a assure, however who makes the opposite guys giggle probably the most?

“Honestly, I think they all kind of break in the face of Farva [Heffernan] a lot because he just does so many ridiculous things,” admitting she cracked up throughout a take too.

The first “Super Troopers” turned a cult hit after its 2001 debut, a millennial staple with infinitely quotable strains and jokes that retains audiences coming again for extra.

Coughlan mentioned lots of people “feel like they grew up” with the flicks and with the third one hitting screens, “there’s a familiarity to the cast and to the guys and you do feel like you kind of grew up with them and so there’s just like this sense of kind of belonging with that world that I feel like you don’t often get with a franchise with a movie.”

“You’re not gonna feel like, oh, I belong in the world of Marvel franchises or whatever. But so many people I run into are just like, ‘Oh my God, that’s the movie I watched five times a day in college, and then and then again in my 20s and my third, and then I got married and I showed it to my wife, and now you know my 17 year old kid loves it, and you know it’s just it sort of weirdly has a sense of humor that crosses generations. Thankfully, it kind of doesn’t really feel like it’s of a specific era, and so it just kind of stands the test of time.”

“It’s like a unique tone in that it is broad, but it’s also kind of like smart broad,” she added. “It’s not just stupid for the sake of being stupid. There are also moments that are just like a really funny play on words or whatever, so it kind of reaches a lot of different audiences comedically.”
