NFL head coaches will now have the ability to designate an assistant to deal with the duty of throwing the purple flag to problem a name by instantaneous replay.

Since the present instantaneous replay rule was put in place in 1999, solely the top coach was allowed to throw the flag to problem a disputed name. But the league tweaked the language in Rule 15 Section 1 of the rule ebook for this season, permitting that process to be delegated.

“The head coach or head coach’s pregame challenge designee can initiate a challenge by throwing a red flag onto the field of play before the next legal snap or kick,” the rule ebook says in Article 1 (a).

If a head coach desires to surrender these duties, he must let the officiating crew know earlier than the sport.

The determination to throw the flag is usually made in session with workers within the coaches sales space with the top coach having ultimate say. That will not seemingly change even when the duty of throwing the flag could be delegated. 

Teams are granted two challenges per sport and may get a 3rd if one of many first two results in an overturn. Replay can be utilized in a number of situations together with possession, whether or not the ball or a participant touched the bottom, whether or not a participant was inbounds, whether or not a participant gained a primary down, or what number of gamers have been on the sphere.

Any scoring play, turnover, failed fourth down, possession after a kick or disqualification are robotically reviewed and cannot be challenged by groups.
