‘Losing your time’: FIFO employee divides web by claiming the trade is a ‘single man’s life-style’ and never made for married males

FIFO employee Jake Shirms gave his two cents price on why the trade makes it onerous to maintain a profitable relationship.

“I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again, FIFO is a single man’s lifestyle,” Jake stated within the video shared on his TikTok.

“I don’t care what the old fellas say who have been married for 40 years – this doesn’t apply to you.”

According to Jake, youthful males who select the career ought to keep single, concentrate on constructing their wealth and never waste their time on a relationship that is more likely to fail.

“But you young guys looking to get into the FIFO space, and you’re thinking about getting a girl, you are wasting your time,” he added.

“Use this as a time to make some money, buy a house, do whatever it is you need to do and then look at settling down.”

He stated that in his time on FIFO worksites, he has come throughout numerous divorcees and heard limitless tales of relationship drama from colleagues with companions again dwelling. 

“But you spend enough time on these mine sites, and the amount of divorces you’ll hear of, the amount of drama you’ll hear about –  this lifestyle is not conducive to a long-term relationship,” he stated.

“It’s an obvious concept which a lot of people don’t seem to understand.”

Jake identified that if a fly-in-fly-out employee’s accomplice is “happy” to be other than them for an prolonged time frame, the connection is probably not all that wholesome.

“My husband is on a two-on, two-off roster. But we’ve been doing really well together, no drama,” commented a second. 

“We are both happy and have been doing it for 11 years now. I find it really good, and it gives both of us space.”

One commenter wrote that the person “clearly picked the wrong Mrs”.

“I have a Mrs that supports me and shows me support regardless. Depends on your misses, if you’re willing to commit to that little type of relationship, and if she loves you for you.”

Other commenters agreed with the FIFO employee.

“Yep, I agree. People in relationships need to be living together. You cannot do long distance – you need that connection,” one particular person wrote. 

“Stack cash, set yourself up. Then leave the mines and settle down. Or don’t, and you’ll be here until you retire or die,” wrote one other.
