Getty Exhibition Explores the Evolution of Mexican Photography

A brand new exhibition explores how Twentieth-century Mexican pictures was formed by a wealthy community of inventive connections and cultural exchanges.

Opening September 1, 2026, on the Getty Center in Los Angeles, California, Instante/revelación: Moments in Mexican Photography brings collectively works by 13 influential photographers, spanning the late Twenties to the mid-2010s.

This exhibition options works by 13 outstanding photographers, together with Lola Álvarez Bravo, Manuel Álvarez Bravo, Héctor García, Graciela Iturbide, and Pablo Ortiz Monasterio. The pictures, donated by Daniel Greenberg and Susan Steinhauser to the Getty Museum over the previous 25 years, report the “instantes y revelaciones” (instants and revelations) of a exceptional century of Mexican creativity. The exhibition examines the event of Mexican pictures via collaboration, experimentation, and exchanges between artists — together with pictures from Graciela Iturbide’s collection in Frida Kahlo’s toilet.

Instante/revelación: Moments in Mexican Photography shall be on view on the Getty Center in Los Angeles, California, from September 1, 2026, via January 3, 2027.
