Officials advise no swimming, leisure ocean actions

Ocean Safety Bureau officers are advising no swimming or different leisure ocean actions on account of a statewide Brown Water Advisory.

The Hawai‘i State Department of Health Clean Water Branch has issued a statewide Brown Water Advisory on account of runoff from heavy rain and storm exercise. The Hawai‘i Department of Health is issuing present advisories.

The Hawaiʻi Department of Health advises seashore customers to keep away from waters that seem brown, cloudy, or murky, significantly after storms or heavy rainfall. This suggestion applies even when a Brown Water Advisory has not been issued. Stormwater runoff can carry sewage, micro organism, chemical compounds, and different pollution into coastal waters. As a precaution, DOH recommends staying out of affected waters for a minimum of 48 to 72 hours after heavy rain has stopped and permitting situations to enhance.

Ocean Safety Bureau officers remind the general public to swim solely at lifeguarded seashores, and to remain out of the water wherever it seems brown or murky.
