“Before history was written, it was photographed” – 25 years later, greater than 30 photographers will come collectively to speak about photographing 9/11

Ahead of the twenty fifth anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist assaults, greater than 30 photographers are coming collectively to share their tales of what it was prefer to {photograph} the occasion that modified fashionable American historical past.

Projections NYC is bringing collectively the photographers, photojournalists and photograph editors who witnessed 9/11 and the occasions that adopted firsthand. For 6 days, the group will broadcast reside interviews with the photographers, starting on September 06 at 19:00 EST.

The collection has already confirmed greater than 30 photographers, together with Spencer Platt, who photographed the moment the second plane struck the World Trade Center; Steve McCurry, who photographed the towers falling from the roof of his apartment building; and Eric Draper, who was the Chief White House photographer at the time.

Additional photographers confirmed to be part of the event include Joel Meyerowitz, Pete Souza, Ron Haviv, Jennifer S Altman, Thomas Franklin, Mark Edward Harris, MaryAnne Golon, Stan Honda, Ruth Fremson, David Friend and Rabbi Irwin Kula.

The series of interviews follows the tragedy of 9/11 across Ground Zero, Flight 93, the Pentagon, the White House and communities across America. Projections NYC says that the series covers not just the first photographs of 9/11 but also the photographers following the aftermath over the ensuing years.

The series arranges the interviews across 6 days, culminating on the 25th anniversary of 9/11. The interviews will both be broadcast live worldwide and recorded for the public record, the organization says.

“Before history was written, it was photographed,” the organization wrote. “… They edited the images that informed the world. They documented not only a single day, but the years that followed, creating an enduring visual record of one of the defining events of our time.”
