Photographer Tom Hunter captured the subversive spirit alive in London’s 90s squats

Creativity? Beauty? Decoration? What all of those phrases confer with is a visual hint of people that take pleasure in a reciprocal relationship with their environment, who take from it and likewise give again to it; who imprint themselves on it and permit themselves to be imprinted. It’s the alternative of aestheticisation, shopper want, ‘good taste’, all of which serve to alienate us from each other. It’s why, regardless of all the assorted colors, kinds and ages, Hunter’s scenes all have a concord to them.
