The wreck was initially named an unidentified German U-boat by Ian Taylor and the Skin Deeper staff whereas diving the channel.

Dom Robinson, 55, and his diving staff, Gasperados, determined to go to the wreck 20 miles off the coast of Salcombe within the hopes they may establish it.

After consulting boat historian Axel Niestlé, they discovered the wreck to be the U-672, a Type VIIC submarine misplaced in 1944 that sank after being attacked by HMS Balfour on July 18 of that yr.
