Durham Museum highlights Omaha’s railroad historical past with new images exhibit

OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) – The Durham Museum is partnering with the Omaha Common Senses Festival for a brand new locomotive-themed exhibit, including to the museum’s assortment of railroad historical past.

“Omaha was the start of the transcontinental railroad that connected the, you know, kind of a golden spike story that everybody knows, the east meets the west. It really did start Omaha,” stated Scott Eastman, Durham Museum Director of Marketing and PR.

A legendary connection to trains

“The Durham is sort of legendary for our trains that are sitting on the original tracks from the days that this was a train station,” Eastman stated.

The Omaha Common Senses Festival celebrates artwork, science and incapacity acceptance. This 12 months’s exhibit is a part of that pageant.

“This year, trains it one of the preferred interest themes. And what better palace that Omaha’s Union Station to celebrate that,” Eastman stated.

Photography exhibition options Blair Bunting

The pageant’s exhibit on the Durham is a images exhibition referred to as “One-Track Mind,” by Blair Bunting.

“Blair Bunting – an acclaimed international commercial photographer who has filmed or shot photos for celebrities and major car brands and all kinds of major brands across the world. This is his personal interest – is train photography,” Eastman stated.

Bunting centered on trains throughout the COVID pandemic, when a lot of his business shoots had been canceled. One railroad is regularly featured in his work.

“It’s so special for us to be able to host that, and Union Pacific is headquartered here in Omaha. Union Pacific is one of his sort of common subjects in many of his photographs. It’s just – we’re honored to be a part of that story,” Eastman stated.

The exhibit is open now and runs by Oct. 4. Bunting will host a presentation of his work on Thursday, Sept. 17.
