American swimmer (1905–1982)

Paul Curkeet Samson (June 12, 1905 – February 10, 1982) was an American cardiothoracic surgeon and competitors swimmer who represented the United States on the 1928 Summer Olympics in Amsterdam, Netherlands.[1] Samson was born in Emporia, Kansas.[1]

He enrolled within the University of Michigan and swam for the Michigan Wolverines swimming and diving crew in National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) competitors. In 1927, he received the NCAA nationwide championships within the 220-yard freestyle (2:26.6) and the 440-yard freestyle (5:28.7).[2]

Samson swam for the first-place U.S. crew within the qualifying heats of the boys’s 4×200-meter freestyle relay.[1][3] Because he didn’t swim within the relay occasion last he was not eligible to obtain a medal below the 1928 Olympic guidelines. He was additionally a member of the fourth-place U.S. water polo crew.[1]

Samson was a distinguished cardiac and thoracic surgeon in California. In 1946 he based the thoracic and cardiac surgical procedure coaching program at Highland Hospital, and later turned the chief of surgical procedure on the hospital at Samuel Merritt University. He additionally taught on the school at Stanford University School of Medicine.[4]
