B.C. household rescues exhausted child bear swimming in Okanagan Lake

A latest household boating journey on Okanagan Lake changed into a wildlife water rescue mission.

Christina Zamniuk advised Global News that they have been boating between their Vernon lakehouse and Adventure Bay final weekend when a child bear was noticed swimming in the course of the lake.

She mentioned it was clear that the cub was exhausted and struggling to maintain its head above water.

The household referred to as the B.C. Conservation Service for steerage as they have been not sure what to do.

In the meantime, they have been capable of get a rope across the bear and introduced the cub, which they named Boo Boo, onto the boat to heat up.

“His little nose was going under,” Zamniuk mentioned.

“He was blowing bubbles. His little back legs were not moving anymore. He was just paddling with his front and he was just exhausted. So we got him in there… We got him on the boat. He was shivering, shaking, he was absolutely terrified.”

Zamniuk mentioned they stored the bear on the boat to heat up for about an hour.

On the recommendation of the B.C. Conservation Service, they have been advised to take Boo Boo near shore and with a loving shove, he was capable of make it onto land and went on his method.
