Town of Barnstable Media Launch – Rita Colantonio Artist Exhibit at Barnstable Town Hall

THE PUBLIC IS INVITED TO MEET THE ARTIST DURING AN OPENING RECEPTION ON FRIDAY, OCTOBER 9, 2026, BETWEEN 2:00PM AND 4:00PM.

The Town of Barnstable declares the newest installment of its Artist Spotlight program, that includes the works of Rita Colantonio. The exhibition, “Image and Imagination” is on show within the James H. Crocker, Jr. Hearing Room and the Selectmen’s Conference Room at Barnstable Town Hall September 30 by way of December 30, 2026. The exhibition is free and open to the general public. Town Hall is open Monday by way of Friday, 8:30 AM – 4:30 PM (besides State and Federal holidays) and is positioned at 367 Main Street, Hyannis. ABOUT THE EXHIBIT:
Rita Colantonio’s artwork model may be very various, starting from surrealism to summary portraits to painterly nonetheless life and road scenes. ARTIST STATEMENT:
After 16 years as a public faculty artwork trainer I dreamed of coming to Cape Cod to create my very own artwork. When I retired to Cape Cod in 2009 my dream was coming true. I began portray with watercolors and had 5 years of classes with outstanding watercolor artists on the Cape Cod Art Center. Around that point, I started to {photograph} the seashores, ocean, marshes, flower gardens, classic buildings and other people. I discovered that my love of images turned a robust focus for me. I joined the Camera Club, doing properly in competitions and exhibitions.

 

But sooner or later, I wanted to choose on how I might focus my artwork. How might I convey collectively my love of portray and images. The reply got here with my first experiments with the iPhone and the modifying apps I found. I turned obsessive about creating photographs on my cellphone and later the iPad Pro. There had been many late nights discovering so many prospects for creating artwork. So a lot inspiration available by others doing the identical factor. It was a brand new medium, a brand new world of picture making. It allowed me to let creativeness take management with full freedom to create.

ABOUT THE ARTIST:

Rita has exhibited her work each domestically and internationally, successful many awards for her digital artwork. She is a member of 4 Cape Cod artwork organizations and holds a Master Designation on the Cape Cod Art Center. Rita has curated two massive iPhoneography competitions on the Plymouth Center for the Arts. She has additionally led Digital Art teams and taught workshops within the space, together with one for Cape Cod public faculty artwork lecturers.
